440 Republicans Sign Up To Run For NH House, Democrats Fall Well Short Of Their 370 Candidate Goal
CONCORD –NHPoliticalReport.com (6/17/10) today reports that Republicans filed 440 candidates to run for the New Hampshire House this year – filling 372 slots on the ballot. Democrats – who had repeatedly pledged to fill 370 slots– filed a disappointing total of only 359 House candidates. Excluding primaries, the Democrats only filled 344 slots. The filing period for political committees ended yesterday.
“We would like to thank the Republican activists throughout New Hampshire who made our recruitment effort a tremendous success. The record breaking number of Republican candidates who filed for office this year is a clear indication of the energy, enthusiasm and excitement in our party,” said New Hampshire Republican State Committee Vice-Chairman and chief recruiter Wayne MacDonald. “Our strong slate of outstanding candidates shows that Republicans are poised to take back the New Hampshire House in November and restore our state’s fiscal integrity.”
For weeks, the New Hampshire Democrat Party repeatedly promised to fill 370 House seats and file more total candidates than Republicans. The Democrats ended up posting an embarrassingly low number of candidates and fell well short of both publicly stated goals.
Republicans have 570 candidates filed for county, state and federal offices, compared to the Democrats’ 452 candidates.
