CONCORD – Former New Hampshire Governor and Republican State Committee Chairman John H. Sununu released the following statement today on the Democrats’ new plan to use a legislative tactic known as a “self-executing rule” (Washington Post, 3/16) that will allow them to pass ObamaCare without actually voting on it:
“The desperate and dishonest backroom procedures that Paul Hodes and Carol-Shea Porter are using to pass their government takeover of health care prove that they don’t care about open and honest government. Their latest legislative gimmick – an obscure process that will allow them to pass ObamaCare without actually voting on it – insults the intelligence of New Hampshire voters.
“Paul Hodes, Carol Shea-Porter and their Democrat colleagues in Washington are a group of egotistical, elitist politicians who believe they are smarter than the American public. Representatives Hodes and Shea-Porter arrogantly believe that Granite Staters are not smart enough to recognize the deceitful tactics and corrupt backroom deals that they are using to pass this disastrous legislation.
“Despite what the Democrats think, New Hampshire voters are paying attention to the health care debate and they are disgusted by the corrupt process that’s being used to ram this bill through Congress. Every public opinion poll shows that Granite Staters overwhelmingly oppose ObamaCare, yet Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter continue to support this government takeover of health care. This is the kind of political arrogance that will result in a historic backlash in November against the out of touch Democrats who refuse to listen to their constituents.”
