Shaheen Donated Tainted Nemazee Contributions To NH Food Bank In September, Dems Must Donate Dirty Rangel Money Now
CONCORD – The New Hampshire Republican State Committee today called on Congressman Paul Hodes, Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congressional candidate Katrina Swett to give the campaign donations they received from disgraced Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) to the New Hampshire Food Bank. Last September, Senator Shaheen disposed of tainted contributions she received from disgraced Democrat fundraiser Hassan Nemazee by donating the money to the New Hampshire Food Bank (Union Leader, 9/8/2009).
“Jeanne Shaheen had it right in September – all campaign donations from unethical crooks like Hassan Nemazee and Charlie Rangel must be immediately donated to charity. There is no good reason for Paul Hodes, Jeanne Shaheen and Katrina Swett to ignore the precedent set by Shaheen herself and refuse to donate their tainted contributions to the New Hampshire Food Bank,” said NHGOP Communications Director Ryan Williams. “It’s time for Congressman Hodes, Senator Shaheen and Katrina Swett to put this dirty Washington money to good use by giving it to a worthy New Hampshire charity.”
Hodes, Shaheen and Swett have attempted to hold on to their filthy contributions by pathetically claiming that they are unable to return the donations to Rangel’s leadership PAC and his campaign committee. But nothing would stop them from giving the money to charity. All three Democrats currently have thousands of dollars in their bank accounts and could easily afford to give the money to a worthy cause.
“The only thing stopping Paul Hodes, Jeanne Shaheen and Katrina Swett from giving their dirty Rangel money to charity is sheer greed. Their continued unwillingness to dump these tainted contributions speaks volumes about their inadequate ethical standards and complete lack of integrity,” said Williams.
Twenty Nine Congressional Democrats – including Representative Carol Shea-Porter – have already dumped $411,000 of dirty Rangel money. Many have given their donations to charities in their districts.
Rangel has made the following tainted donations to New Hampshire Democrats:
